The Sharp Record
ssharp@ink.org

Friends:

As we wind down this election cycle (Hallelujah!) I want to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting me, the Sharp Record, and my work in Topeka.  I am a firm believer in servant leadership and take the responsibility to represent you very seriously.  That being said, we are not going to agree all the time, and that's what makes democracy work.  Therefore, I do have opponents.

So, you may see mailings or other literature over the next few weeks that call into question my voting record, positions, or even my integrity.  I have no idea what to expect.  Surprises always come at the end when there is no opportunity to respond.  However, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about anything you see, hear, or read.  I'm accountable to you.

My opponents are not bad people.  One is a Libertarian and the other is a Democrat.  I represent thousands of Democrats and dozens of Libertarians.  Do I think I have earned your trust, more closely identify with your expectations for this district, and most effectively represent our area?  Without a doubt.

However, I will not condemn my opponents because they think, believe, or vote different than me.  The rise of such animosity has driven Americans away from the process and alienated voters in Kansas to the extent that we are accustomed to record-setting low voter turnout.  Should I win re-election, I will continue to listen to listen to you, regardless of party.  In the 17th District, you don't get left out if you aren't a Republican.  Just because I am does not mean you aren't represented in Topeka.  As previously mentioned, it simply means we won't always agree.  America wasn't founded on homogeneity, thank goodness.  Imagine how vanilla that would be.  Or rather, Overland Park beige...  Kidding, I had to lighten the mood after my soapbox.

Most sincerely, I am honored to work with you and would sincerely appreciate your vote anytime between now and November 7th.  See below for advance voting locations.

Don't know where to vote or what's on the ballot?  See "Resources" below for more voting information.

Yard sign info:  PLEASE do not throw your yard sign away!!!!  In fact, you might add a little Vaseline or honey to it as a deterrent for the Halloween weekend.

Other candidates:

I have extra yard signs for Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh as well as access, for those of you on the MO side, to "Vote Yes on 2" signs for the MO lifesaving cures amendment.  Reply to this email if you are interested.  For other statewide candidate signs, contact the Johnson County Republican Party:  www.johnsoncountyrepublicanparty.com.  The Thornburgh folks dropped off extras, so I just happen to have some of theirs.

Sharp Media

Johnson County SUN endorsement, October 19, 2006:

17th District - Stephanie Sharp, Republican…  Sharp, the incumbent, makes special efforts to keep her constituents well-informed on legislative activities. She is respected by her colleagues for her hard work. That includes active participation in House committees, where legislation is developed from concept to the drafting stage. That is essential to well-written legislation.

Opportunities

10:00 am OR 12:30 pm - we'll have two opportunities this Saturday

7820 Mullen, Lenexa (first block west of Mill Creek soccer fields, north side of 79th)

Where's Waldo?

§            Lenexa Chili Cookoff - I was lucky to judge the contest this year.  My favorite was actually salsa.  As far as I'm concerned, tortilla chips are merely a salsa-delivery device.  However, for those of you who braved the elements to cook, attend, or judge, KUDOS to you.  It was a great event and participants were thrilled at the turnout - quite a crowd for the weather, but a PERFECT day for chili.

Now that you know when/where to vote, what the heck is on the ballot?

My favorite tool on the Johnson County Election website is the Sample Ballot: http://voter.jocoelection.org/(xvtext55xjegvyzjuzc1rs55)/search.aspx

Simply enter your name and birthdate to see your polling place and ballot.  You can print the list, research races, highlight names and take it with you on Nov. 7.

Please do not hesitate to contact me about these or any other issues of interest to you.  I appreciate the opportunity to represent you in Topeka.
