The Sharp Record - March 20, 2009

Friends:

Greetings from campaign-land. We are certainly in the heat of it now and I wanted to update you on what I am doing to win this race, hopefully with your help!

Can I use your name? Even if you have contributed to my campaign or told me before that I can use your name in an endorsement piece, please reply to this email with your approval. Thanks for your help!

Campaign Strategy

Yard Signs

You may have noticed some rather large “yard” signs I have up around the county. Two billboards went live in the last week. You can view them on southbound I-35 just after I-635 merges in and then on northbound I-35 just north of 151st Street. They’re very bright red and look like my old yard signs with the JCCC Trustee twist. Thank you to the good people at CBS Outdoor for helping me find diverse locations! Yard signs are SO expensive ($2.50 a pop at best) and for a county-wide race, I just didn’t think the cost, assembly, and distribution would get me the bang for the buck that billboards would. My intent is to make people think “Oh, there’s an election on April 7?” If I can get them to the polls, my name ID is likely to be higher than the other candidates, so I need to drive people to the polls. That’s where telling your friends and neighbors really helps!

Mailings

Many of you will see mailings drop over the next few weeks. I am planning highly targeted mailings to areas where I know voter turnout will be high and my name ID is high. Just keep in mind that if you live in Johnson County, this race will be on your ballot, even if there are no other races in your area.

Endorsements

I wanted to highlight some of my recent endorsements:

•    JCCC Faculty Association

•    The Sun Newspapers – "Cook, Drummond, Rayl, Sharp" makes it pretty simple: http://sunpublications.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1574:cook-drummond-rayl-sharp&catid=53:steve-rose-memo-archives

•    I’ve completed candidate surveys for these organizations and they either are posted on their websites or will be soon:

o    Overland Park Chamber of Commerce

      o    Olathe Chamber of Commerce

      o    JCCC Faculty Association

      o    Sun Publications

      o    The Kansas City Star

Advance Voting

Just 20 days left and advance voting starts this week! You should have received a day-glo green postcard from the Johnson County Election Office – pay close attention because it tells you where to vote. There were many more polling locations for the fall election because of high turnout. Polling places have been reduced and you will likely vote in a different place.

You can view your sample ballot and polling location here: https://voter.jocoelection.org/(mhpapa45up3kdcfabxgrx455)/Search.aspx

If you would like to vote by mail, click here for an application: http://www.jocoelection.org/advapp.pdf. Advance ballots were mailed today and on an as-needed basis when applications come in.

OOPS!

Can you tell I’m a bit rusty at this? I realized in my last note to you that I asked for donations, but didn’t tell you how to give one. Not my brightest moment! If you can contribute, checks should be made out to Sharp for JCCC and sent to 7820 Mullen Road, Lenexa, KS 66216. If you’re a “remind me how to write a check” person like me (I heart BillPay), you can also contribute online at www.stephaniesharp.com/donate.

Thank you so much for your continuing support for quality higher education in Johnson County. The best way to maintain reasonable leadership is to tell your friends in advance and remind them on April 7 (before 7 pm). Again, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas about the campaign or the community college.

Kind regards,

Stephanie Sharp, Candidate for JCCC Board of Trustees
