Inside Kansas Politics

June 19, we had an “all calls, all hour” show, where we took questions from YOU!  The most consistent part of the show was the caller’s concerns.  With each caller and question, we asked the caller what issues were important to them during this year’s election.  Every single caller said “education and economic development” or some derivative thereof… schools and jobs, etc.

The Sharp-Voter Files

This section is ALL NEW!  The idea is for you to get to know your friends and neighbors that are “Sharp Voters”.

Mary Ca Ralstin

Mary Ca is an UBER-volunteer for me and has lived in Kansas since age 6.  She and her husband Jim met at Bethany Medical Center, she is an RN and he is a pulmonologist.  They will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary this year.

Her four children, Meg, 19, Becca, 17, James 16, Allison 15 attended Benninghoven, Trailridge, and Northwest.  Meg is a sophomore at KU majoring in international relations.  The Ralstins live in Stonebridge subdivision at Midland and Lackman.

Mary Ca is one of those people I can call, give her an idea, let her run with it, and it ALWAYS makes a splash.  She can round up a dozen volunteers in a flash to walk doors, walk parades, or make phone calls.  Here is just a fraction of some of the things Mary Ca does:

Member, St. Joseph Catholic Church

PTA Past President, Benninghoven

PTA Past President, Trailridge

Shawnee Mission PTA Council

Health Chairman for Kansas PTA

Scholarship Chairman for Kansas PTA

Legislative Affairs Committee Chairman, SMNW PTA

Executive Committee of Kansas Families United for Public Education

Mary Ca graduated from Marymount College in Salina, KS.  She loves going on adventures with her children, spending time at the lake, and reading mysteries.  THANK YOU to Mary Ca for her constant support in every area!

Question of the Week!

Last week’s question:

How was suffragette Susan B. Anthony related to Kansas?

Answer and Winner:  Pat Hurley, a government relations and transportation guru is this week’s winner!  Pat wins one of my magnets and a Seal of Kansas lapel pin.

Susan B. Anthony’s brother, Daniel R. Anthony lived in Leavenworth, KS.

New Question:  Jeopardy-style:  I was commemorated by a $.03 postage stamp in the late 1940s. I attended school, was a member of the Presbyterian Church and its choir, and later operated a laundry in Minneapolis, Ottawa County, Kansas.  Who am I?

As always, I would love your comments and questions about anything included here, or about anything in state government!  If I can ever be of service to you, please do not hesitate to drop me a line!
