Out of the Blocks
Out of the Blocks
I won! Thank you for the awesome opportunity to represent you for another two years. I am truly humbled by your kind comments and strong support. If you still have a yard sign, please reply to this email to let me know, I’ll come by and pick it up (they are expensive little beauties - $3.50 to $5.00 a piece).
You thought the legislative session started in January? Nope – as far as I’m concerned, it starts NOW. Coalition-building, bill review, and brainstorming are all in high gear right now. In truth, these activities never stopped, they just slowed down for the election season.
There will be a multitude of opportunities to give me your thoughts, get involved in the legislative process, and become comfortable with the issues and your government. Keep reading!
If you have a student attending KU, KSU, or Washburn, and they want to have a great experience, earn college credit, and build relationships that will last far into the future, have them contact me about a spring internship in Topeka. Students are paid $400 for interning, and we can work around their schedule. Most students choose to intern on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and then take the bulk of their classes on MWF. There is a bit more flexibility with Washburn students. Reply to this email if your student is interested.
Likewise, if you have a student who is 12 years of age or older, they can come spend the day in Topeka as a Page. The students run errands all over the Capitol, meet and get a picture with the Governor, and have a guided tour (including a visit to the top of the dome). Lunch is on me, and the students are paid $3 for the day. Legislator’s salary? Ha
Again, reply to this email if your student is interested.
Soon, I will be sending you information about an online survey. Most legislators send surveys to their constituents, but I’m sure you’re shocked to hear I will be conducting mine on the internet. Other options will be available to those without internet access, but I’m very excited about this project!
If you would be interested in hosting a group in your home, or help organize a social at a nearby facility, please reply to this email.
Where’s Waldo (Rep. Sharp)? November 1 – 5, 2004
Question of the Week!
Addendum from last week: I forgot to add a “law idea” from last week!
NEW QUESTION: How many votes did I receive in the Primary Election, and how many in the General Election?
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me about any of these issues or others that are of concern to you. I appreciate the opportunity to serve you in the Kansas House of Representatives.
