Friends:

Door-to-door is certainly going well and the more doors I walk, the more that want yard signs!  At least there haven't been any dog incidents this time around.  If you see me out-and-about, make sure to stop and say hello.

Now that you know when/where to vote, what the heck is on the ballot?

My all-time favorite tool on the Johnson County Election website is the Sample Ballot: http://voter.jocoelection.org/(xvtext55xjegvyzjuzc1rs55)/search.aspx

Simply enter your name and birthdate to see your polling place and ballot.  You can print the list, research races, highlight names and take it with you on Nov. 7.

Sharp Media

Kansas City Star endorsement, October 17, 2006:

"Incumbent Republican Stephanie Sharp of Lenexa, a consultant for various organizations, stays in close contact with constituents and has been a reliable vote for adequate school funding. She is the choice over Democrat Ed Coleman and Libertarian Michael Kerner.

The Johnson County SUN endorsements come out tomorrow, stay tuned!

Opportunities

Can you read a map?  Can you read a house number?  Then I plan to see you on Sunday afternoon!  I know, I know, the Chiefs are on.  I'm giving up my seats that afternoon and would love to have your help.

Sunday, Oct 22nd, 2:00 pm

7820 Mullen, Lenexa (first block west of Mill Creek soccer fields, north side of 79th)

Please reply to this email if you can help this Sunday - I want to make sure we have enough supplies and pizza.

Education and Personal Activities

You might remember the entire JoCo delegation voted against the education bill that passed this year.  Well, the more I talk with folks around the state, the more I'm hearing general distaste for years two and three of the plan (the especially bad ones for our area).  I have family in Wichita and SWKS and it seems like candidates all over the state are looking forward to changing the "out-years" of the plan to make it more palatable.

*  Is your student a junior or senior political science or journalism major at KU or Washburn?  I'm not officially looking for an intern until we make sure I'm re-elected on Nov. 7th, but keep this in mind.

*  Folks keep asking about pages.  Then again, they haven't asked as much in the past few weeks...  If re-elected, my page dates will not be assigned until the first week in January, I'll put them out on the newsletter as soon as I have them.  Pages serve just one day in the Kansas House, start around 7:30 am and end around 3:30 pm.  This is a great time for parents to Sharp Shadow.

Sharp Shadow - keep this opportunity in mind as we approach the New Year.  The best time to spend a day in Topeka is early February through the end of March.  January tends to be very slow and April/May is unpredictable.  Shadows sit with me on the House floor, attend committee meetings, and are included in all discussions throughout their day, whether it's strategy between a couple of legislators, getting statistics from a lobbyist, or meeting with other constituents, the Sharp Shadow is a great way to experience your state government first-hand.

Where's Waldo?

§            Blue Valley Education Association/Johnson County Community College Faculty legislative reception

§            Shawnee Chamber/KCK Chamber gubernatorial debate

§            Tomorrow:  MOCSA breakfast

§            Tomorrow:  KS Society of Professional Engineers meeting (I think 90% of my district must be engineers!)
