January 8, 2007

Friends:

Welcome to the 2007 Legislative Session of the Kansas House of Representatives!  We officially kick off here in a little bit with a swearing-in at 2:00 pm.  Earlier this morning, I watched the five statewide officials sworn into their positions while a refueling plane roared over the Capitol in a perfectly blue sky.  What a great day to be a Kansan!

I'll make this a short-and-sweet Record because I'll have an update of the State-of-the-State address and the week's happenings this Friday.

Announcements - website, 2007 survey!

Opportunities - stem cell and Sharp Shadow

Announcements

  • New website!!!  I want to formally announce my website redesign (it's a new format, but basically the same design) and the 2007 Legislative Survey.  Your email address and home address must be included, or I toss out your survey - I need to know where folks live so I can differentiate the results!
  • Visit http://stephaniesharp.com/2007survey to complete this year's survey!  Next week, postcards will go out to every registered household in the 17th District, directing them to the online survey as well.  Thank you for your help, it's much easier to appropriately represent you if I know what you think!

Opportunities

  • There is an excellent opportunity to learn the basics of the Stem Cell Research debate.  Lori Hutfles (formerly a State Representative from Merriam) is hosting an education session that will also provide Q&A.

o       7 p.m., Jan. 10 at the Johnson County Library—Lackman, 15345 W. 87th Street, Lenexa. www.jocolibrary.org (913-495-7540)

  •  Sharp Shadow:  Zip me your dates now to schedule a day at the Capitol!  I recommend Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, anytime in February or March.  January is typically dull and April is completely unpredictable…

Where's Waldo?

  • Meeting with Carlton McNair, KS Retired Teachers and Silver Haired Legislator
  •  Lenexa Chamber lunch
  • Johnson County Rotary club presentation
  • Chairman/Vice Chairman meeting with KS Health Policy Authority
  • Johnson County Convener reception (sponsored by the cities, county, school districts, and just about anyone else you could think of.)
  • Johnson County Bankers' legislative kickoff breakfast
  • Inaugural activities:

o       Johnson County banquet

o       My swearing-in

o       Topeka inaugural gala – watch for pictures soon!
