I ASK FOR YOUR VOTE TOMORROW, Tuesday, November 2nd!

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Are you as ready for all of this to be over as I am?  The mudslinging seems only to have gotten worse at every level, and until voters are not affected by negative campaigning, and polls start to show that negative campaigning hurts a candidate, that is the only way I see to end it.  However, most of us don’t have time to thoroughly investigate EVERY race, so candidates take advantage of that and tell you what THEY think you should think.

On top of all of that, it is hard to decipher between the negative ads and the “getting out the truth” ads that come across negative.  I’m in the middle of this stuff and it’s confusing, I’m sure some of you must be in the same boat.

I’m stepping off my soapbox now…

    Yard signs

Yard signs – PLEASE keep them out, we’ll pick them up sometime between 7:00 pm Tuesday and 10:00 pm Wednesday.

    Poll Watchers

If you were a poll watcher last time and would like to help again, please reply to this email ASAP – I’ll run a permission form by your house today or tomorrow.  If you are new to poll-watching and want to be the first to see the results of the election in Johnson County, also reply to this email.

    Election Watch Party

Election night, I will be at the Overland Park Marriott, watching the results – come join us!  You may have seen my name in the KC Star in an article about hosting your own watch party at home.  I’m afraid I wasn’t very help because I always try to go to the big group events!  If you have never been to a big watch party, you really should come by – it’s a completely different atmosphere, and they’re open to the public.  Feel free to stop by, I’ll be there from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, then I’m off to collect yard signs.

    Voting Questions?

Questions about early voting, or Election Day voting?  The Johnson County Election Office has a GREAT website, with answers to ALL your questions.  www.jocoelection.org.  I would strongly encourage you to get to the polls BEFORE Election Day, avoid the lines!  Heck, create your own line – pick up five friends to vote with you!

    ·        Early voting locations: Johnson County Election Office, 2101 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – have you or your 40+ loved one had their mammogram this year?

    ·        Only 63% of Kansas women over 40 have had a mammogram in the last year – below the national average of 70%.

    ·        If breast cancer is caught in the early stages, the survival rate is 97 percent, whereas a late stage diagnosis drops survival rates to just 56%.  Not a risk you want to take.

I know this sounds like tough love, but if your loved one tells you that a mammogram hurts, you can tell them it doesn’t hurt as much as diagnosis, surgery and treatment – GUARANTEED.

    Question of the Week
The last Sharp Record asked for your ideas about repealing dumb laws or creating new laws that “just make sense”.  Here are your ideas (I copied and pasted direct quotes):

    ·    Move the candidate filing deadline to 3/31 (from June 10)

    ·    Raise legislators salaries--look to Missouri (part-time legislature of

             similar duration)

    ·        No right turn on red

    ·        No “conferencing” of bills – (my explanation: this is what I’m complaining about when we talk about bills that get amended onto conference committee reports, stuff that one chamber has never heard of, but it passed the other chamber, so it can get stuck onto another bill.)

    Contribute to the Campaign

It’s not too late to help out, and EVERY dollar counts – you can contribute by Debit or Credit card via my online contribution site.  You can also print off a form and send it in: PO Box 19556, Lenexa, KS 66285.

    ·         Financial contribution
