Lenexa, KS – Former Representative Stephanie Sharp of Lenexa filed today for a seat on the Johnson County Community College Board of Trustees. Four at-large, county-wide, nonpartisan seats are up for election in the Spring General Election on April 7, 2009.

Sharp served the 17th District in the Kansas House of Representatives for three terms from 2003 to 2008, retiring to pursue full-time employment and start a family. The district includes portions of Lenexa and Shawnee.

“As a key member of the bi-partisan education coalitions that crafted solutions to fund Kansas K-12 schools and increase local control for Johnson County, I am excited to continue the quest for quality schools in the higher education arena right here at home,” Sharp said.

The focus of Sharp’s public service is being an accessible source of information for voters. She will be reinstating her popular newsletter, the Sharp Record, to help raise awareness about the community college’s offerings. Visit www.stephaniesharp.com to subscribe.

Stephanie Sharp serves as the Public Relations Officer at CommunityAmerica Credit Union where she handles media and chamber relationships, corporate philanthropy, and the sponsor relationship with the Kansas City T-Bones. She graduated Magna cum Laude from Southwestern College (Winfield, KS) with degrees in International Politics and French, and graduated from George Washington University (Washington, DC) with a Masters in International Affairs. Sharp is active in the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce, the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, and volunteers for various community charities including Junior Achievement and Children’s Miracle Network.

Stephanie and her husband, Dan Bruyn, live in Lenexa with their daughter, Anna, who was born in October 2008.
